2023 Point-In-Time Count

#Burke Counts everyone

How many people are currently homeless in our county? How many of them are families, youth, or veterans? The answer to these questions and more can be answered by a point-in-time count.

Everyone counts, no matter where they live_edited.jpg

What is the PIT Count?

  • A snapshot of the homeless population on a given night

  • Required by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

  • An unduplicated count on a single night of the people in our community experiencing homelessness, both sheltered and unsheltered

Who gets counted?

  • Sheltered homeless people

    • Staying in shelters - emergency and domestic violence

  • Unsheltered homeless people

    • Staying outside or in places not meant for human habitation

Why conduct a PIT count?

  • To obtain an accurate picture of homelessness in this community

  • To identify unmet needs

  • To obtain data required for funding applications

  • To increase community awareness of homelessness

  • To increase community and stakeholder involvement

  • As a tool for advocacy
