With joy and excitement we receive donations anytime. But it is an added joy, when people of all ages collect items for us and donate them to Burke United Christian Ministries. The donation size does not matter, we appreciate donations of every size. Even a small donation of 5 pounds makes a difference in the lives of the families we serve. January and February are a time of the year when the need is great and the donations are down. But with the help of some special projects, we are able to continue serving the community with Food.
We are very fortunate to be one of the recipients of the Souperintendent’s Souperbowl Canned-Food Drive that Burke County Public Schools orchestrates. The schools decorate their collection barrels – staff, students and community members are invited to fill them with non-perishable food items. For 2017, Burke United Christian Ministries received close to 5,000 pounds! And we are only one of the four agencies that receive food from the Souperintendent’s Souperbowl Canned-Food Drive.
For Ben’s 3rd Birthday Party – instead of receiving gifts and toys, he collected food items for Burke United Christian Ministries. Ben brought in close to 200 pounds of food. It was a joy having the opportunity to watch him help bring food in and learn where the food would be going. A young child helped make a difference in the lives of people we serve.
Find the Souper Bowl Food Drive – Burke County Souper Stars Results here! This drive takes place all over the country. Communities are encouraged to raise money and collect canned food items for their local agencies. Burke County is lucky to have church youth groups and organizations collect food for BUCM. Some churches make a competition out of it, others make it part of the game watching experience. What ever the process – food is collected and donated to Burke United Christian Ministries.
BUCM is very fortunate to be part of a community that has people of all ages with a giving heart. Without donations like this, BUCM would not be able to serve the many families and individuals that we do each day. Thank you Burke County for your support and to the children and young people that help collect items. Because of you, we can make a difference in our neighbors lives.
