On Saturday, May 13, 2017, the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive celebrates 25 years of helping the hungry.
For more than 20 years, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) has conducted an annual nationwide food drive on the second Saturday in May. Using the unparalleled postal networks, letter carriers collect non-perishable food donations on that day as they deliver mail along their postal route.
Volunteers are needed to help unload the mail carrier vehicles, weight incoming food, sort through the donated food items into barrels, load barrels onto the truck and deliver to BUCM. We need your help! Volunteers of all ages, 5 years old to 99 years old. There is something for everyone. Volunteers will be working at the Morganton Post Office. Volunteer Jobs Include:
- Unloading mail carrier vehicles as they come in
- Assisting with weighing the food
- Sorting donated food items into barrels
- Loading full barrels onto truck
- Unloading full barrels at BUCM
- Meeting postal food carriers in other areas of Burke County to pick up food
We will need volunteers from around 12:30 until 5:30 or until finished, but it is recommended that you just give a few hours of your day. Calling all young people, students, college kids, men’s group at churches, quilting clubs, card players, coaches. Anybody and Everybody! This is the event for you! Come help us make a difference.
Does this sound interesting to you?? Are you part of a group that this would be great for?? Know a group that you would like to encourage to be part of this?? Give me a call and I can give you all the details about this wonderful project to Stamp Out Hunger. The community does the donating, postal food carriers do the collecting – we need your help to do the rest!
