Serving Our Neighbors In Need Since 1975
Whatever you do for the least of these, you have done for me also.
Matthew 25
What good is it my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one says to him, "Go I wish you well; keepwarm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead. ~ James 2:14-17 ~
YOU CAN HELP!
By donation of a car, truck or van in road-worthy condition to the Work and Ride program.

DONATIONS ARE TAX
DEDUCTIBLE

Work and Ride (A Work First Program) is in partnership with Burke County Department of Social Services, Burke United Christian Ministries and the faith community.
Work and Ride is a Work First Program that accepts donated vehicles in road-worthy condition and matches them with low-income families in Burke County who need transportation to go to work.

Since Work and Ride started, in mid 2000, two hundred and nine vehicles have been received from generous donors.  Interviews are conducted several times each year when vehicles have been serviced and repaired by Crossroads Ford Service Department and are ready to be given away.  To apply for a Work and Ride vehicle the following criteria must be met:
- Be a U. S. Citizen or eligible alien
- Be a Burke county resident
- Be employed
- Have a valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- Be unable to purchase a vehicle
- Have a relative child 17 or younger in the home
- Family at or below 200% of Federal Poverty

In the calendar year 2009, Work and Ride has received thirteen vehicles from donors and given seventeen vehicles to applicants.  Of the thirteen vehicles donated in the calendar year 2009, all vehicles were in good to excellent condition and no vehicles were salvaged due to extensive mechanical problems.  During the same time, calendar year 2009, Work and Ride received twenty-six new applications.
