Isn't that the same thing as volunteering? No. Opportunity for mission, is the chance to bring dignity, show Christ's love, and experience Jesus in a uniquely personal way.
Like volunteering, opportunity for mission is satisfying to the people engaging in helping others. Opportunity for Mission is different from volunteering, because the person taking the opportunity to become Jesus hands and feet for a brief time experiences more than satisfaction, they become aware they are part of something miraculous: they are carrying out Jesus' charge to fully love God with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength, and to love their neighbor as themselves.
There are unlimited possibilities for taking part in mission at Burke United Christian Ministries. Daily there are people just like you serving in the Soup Kitchen, assisting clients in the Food Pantry, working in the Saved For You clothing store, sorting through canned foods and produce in the warehouse, assembling toiletry kits, food harvesting, helping in the front office, visiting with guests in the dining room, taking part in the ministry and mission to our neighbors.
